About the Bonds

As retired teachers, Mark and Gary were looking for a creative outlet. Over a drink or two, likely three or four, they got to talking about a podcast that revolved around – at that point – whiskey. They talked about bit more, but didn’t want to do the typical whiskey rating or tasting podcast. So they left it there. After some more discussion, and some more drinks, they decided to create a group chat with another avid whiskey enthusiast, Jameson, Gary’s son-in-law, a graphic designer and printer, to toss about some ideas. Eventually, after ideas and bantering, some (likely) drunk text messaging, the idea for Bottles and Bond was born.

All three have deep interest in how our world functions and what makes it work. Each comes at these questions from a different perspective that will arise from a drink, whether a sipper, a cocktail, a beer. Hence the format of the podcast. Each episode is developed by one of the hosts, with the other two engaging in the spirited conversation.

We encourage you to pour your own drink and join in the conversation, maybe even continuing it with your own drinking buddies to see what their thoughts are. After all, spirits and conversation were meant for each other.

Cheers!

Meet the hosts!

Gary Cordray is a former English teacher of 34 years who resides in Aurora, Colorado. He was born in Grand Junction, Colorado and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado where he studied English and Secondary Education. He is an avid reader, writer, and fly fisherman and enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends and family. He is also an avid collector of whiskeys and feels most at home sitting at a bar sipping on a spirit while engaging in meaningful conversation. All of these endeavors have aided Gary in his pursuit of truth and have aided in giving him a better understanding of who he is, who he may become, and how he figures into the fabric of our world.

Mark Sherman has spent a good chunk of his 50 plus years trying to figure himself out. Having just retired from 30 years of teaching English and philosophy, those questions of existence, purpose, and meaning have taken a whole new turn, which has brought him to this podcast. When not thinking about topics for Bottles and Bonds, Mark is usually reading, writing, putzing in the yard, taking a walk, or working on a different riff of an old fashioned to be shared with his girl friend, or any willing drinker.
